VIDEO FILE FORMAT : The 5th generation players tend to use the AVI file format instead of AMV for video files

Just saw these amendments, the volume now definitely works, but I can't get the video player to play AVI files. Should I try converting them to AMV instead?

Many thanks,

Dan

Dan - there are two requirements for the video to work :

1. Must be in the right format and
2. Must be the correct resolution.

As there are so many diffrent brands of these, I cannot tell you which format or screen res you need but there is, invariably, a sample file put on them to show you what they are compatable with. There is probably a sample video file, one or two mp3 songs, a text file and some photos?

Just checkthe spec of the sample video file and it will show you the format and res you need to use

Thank you very much. The videos are playing fine now.

Just a couple of further questions:

1. When accessing the music they all appear as unknown artists or albums despite when I access the same files from the computer and click properties it tells me who/what the artist/album is... Is there anything I can do to sort this or do I just have to grin and bear it?

2. How do I actually add music to a playlist and can I rename them?

Best wishes,

Dan

Dan,

You can make playlists on some of them - it deepends on the firmware - you should examine the files when plugged in to your computer - if you see playlist folders or playlist files, then you know you casn drag songs in to these folders to form a playlist.

Renaming is easy - right click the track with your mouse and select "RENAME"

Some thoughts as I have just sorted this out for myself... it seems to be worth reformatting the AVI files even if they 'appear' to be correct. If you use AVC (AVC = 'any video converter' - shareware free version downloadable from www.filehippo.com) which is really easy to use, it turns out that the default settings for 'Customized AVI Movie' profile are exactly right for the player (5th gen nano-clone with camera - not relevant if your player plays AMV files!)
