Cannot ajust volume on 4gb MP4 player

Got a new MP4 player and two sets of instructions one superseeds the other which says that the volume control is the middle butten but this does not seem to be working, Anybody seen this issue ?

Normally, WHEN PLAYING A TRACK OR RADIO, the middle button becomes active and pressing it brings up the volume scale at the bottom of the screen. Using the skip forward and back buttons adjusts the level of the volume.

If, while playing songs, the middle button does not bring up the volume scale, then two things can bve wrong. Either there is a fault with the button function or you have loaded an incompatible file type, synced with Media Player etc
