ADDENDUM :

Many people are using these as a source for instructions for the 5th generation players (the one with a video camera function also). These players share 99% of the same firmware but there are a couple of subtle differences.

ADJUSTING VOLUME : The volume scale is brought up by pressing the centre button TWICE while music is playing.

VIDEO FILE FORMAT : The 5th generation players tend to use the AVI file format instead of AMV for video files

got my first ever MP3/4 player!!!!!!!!!!!!

happily charging from my laptop

instructions show an eject button (up arrow and line below) to press to disconnect after charging

where is it??????????????? can't see it anywhere on player and is it necessary to do this after cahrging; can I just pull the plug out?????
