MP4 problem

I'm having some problems getting started with my new MP4 player. I've tried charging it up using the charger and it just doesn't seem to charge at all. I tried connecting it using the USB cable and my PC won't recognise it. I tried a different cable which I know works and it still won't assign a drive to the player. It's just dead.

Any ideas anyone?

This sounds like a faulty port on the MP4 player or the connection between the port and the mainboard is disconnected.
